ABOUT US
BRITISH MADE FOR QUALITY
The Campaign to Keep
Manufacturing in Britain
Great Britain was the birthplace of the industrial revolution.
As manufacturers in Britain we have always fought to protect our heritage as a major force in world manufacturing – an ever increasing task which is why the four founders set up the organisation in 2001 with a mission to keep manufacturing in Britain.
BMFQ is funded by membership subscriptions with the income used entirely for marketing, website maintenance the creation of press publicity
and varied lobbying activities - BMFQ management are all volunteers.
We are unanimous in our
belief that manufacturing must be kept alive in Britain! Britain's manufacturing industries - once the envy of the world - are in freefall decline.
Manufacturing jobs disappear every week, as companies "downsize" or
move their production overseas to avoid a growing mountain of Euro bureaucracy.
More than a million jobs have been lost since 1997.
Imports - the vast majority from China
and the Asian block - fill the shelves of your local shops and you will
see few if any products that you can be sure are made in Britain.
In the face of this unfolding economic disaster, the British Government appears impotent. Even worse, the bodies supposedly representing British industry - the
DTI, the CBI, the IoD and numerous government bodies show little
interest in maintaining or growing a strong British manufacturing
base.
Meanwhile, smaller firms - once the backbone of "UK plc" - face the continually mounting threat of unfair competition from the Far East,
blatant copying of their products and patent infringements by countries with
with little or no visible concern for international law, human rights or fair trade.
Instead of creating the conditions in which our businesses can survive and prosper, providing the goods that British and global customers want, the Government and the EU impose an ever-growing burden of red tape that constrains and suffocates free enterprise.
Without manufacturers, who will create the nation’s
future wealth?
Manipulation
of statistics may mask the problem temporarily but it is unlikely that service industries alone can
correct our balance of payments deficit.
The battle is not yet lost, however. The British are nothing if not tough fighters.
There is an answer -
BRITISH MADE FOR QUALITY.
What can we do to fight back?
We can write to our MP's, write to our newspapers lobby our trade
associations or present a united front by joining BMFQ and becoming
part of the Campaign to Keep Manufacturing in Britain.
